Book Review: Fissure by Nicole Williams

   Synopsis

Patrick Hayward’s never been a one woman type of guy, that’s why he never dates just one. However, still reeling the loss of the one woman he took a chance on falling in love with to his older brother, Patrick is enrolled—sequestered, if you asked him—at Stanford in hopes of breaking him out of his months long, beard growing, rootbeer chugging, hygiene impaired, funk.

Something breaks when a certain Emma Scarlett storms into his life his first week on campus as he’s suntanning and cat calling when he should be in class. Emma sees through his act and calls him out like she’s seen his kind a million times before, but Patrick knows he isn’t one of a million, he’s one in a million.

My Rate:

I haven't read the Eden series yet and although it isn't a requirement, it can be very helpful when understanding the concepts of Immortality. But I do understand three things. The first is that Patrick Hayward is one of the most talented sulkers ever to walk the earth. The second is that the situation and end of Emma and Tyler is as clear as crystal. And the last is that this is one of the most entertaining point of view ever to hit the book world!

Patrick sounds like the perfect bookbodiment of Barney Stinson, except a virgin and rich to the point he can feed a third world country for a month if he chooses to. The downfall of all this is the pace and all the unnecessary parts of the book that are fun but undeniably unnecessary. That's three 'uns' there. But as I've said, Pat makes up for it by being whackjabb funny so you still enjoy it.

Emma wasn't that captivating for me. But that's the beauty of this. Patrick's a really cool guy who falls in love with the not so perfect girl even though he claims she's otherwise. There's not much point for this book except that Patrick was depressed over his old flame that United with his brother but quickly snaps out of it when his bicentenarian daddy forces him into Stanford and he falls in love with the flawly hot chick Emma. They struggle with the predictable 6 years abusive relationship she has with controlling Tyler until they finally end up together. Or sorta like that. If you're looking for a great story, this isn't for you. But if you're looking for a funny soliloquy, this is the perfect read.
